BINA KHAN

  • Make-up Artistry

As one of Pakistan’s best known make-up artists, Bina built a cult following early on by going against the grain of societal attitudes and celebrating the beauty of brown skin.

Creating a hybrid of hollywood glam mixed with south asian shapes and saturated tones, Bina’s work is a unique, unplaceable but richly sophisticated style statement.

  • BRIDAL

Responsible for many of the Bridal looks that have by now achieved a place in the karachi make-up world as classics, Bina’s sculpted, rich, sophisticated style celebrates each face’s unique beauty. Ensuring that 30 years later, she remains a go to make-up artist for countless brides.

  • THE BRAND

After running one of Karachi’s best loved salon and training spaces for over a decade, Bina moved to London during the pandemic. In lockdown, Bina took to hosting (over 75) instagram lives as a way to connect with the outside world. People gathered and dressed up during pajama clad quarantine, in a time where art kept us going.

In front of the camera for the first time, Bina’s followers came to know her ethos, her skills and her teaching style. From this naturally flowed online classes, a youtube channel and, of course, a brand.

JUST B

  • THE IDEA

As Bina gave lessons to Madiha Chan, a google engineering lead and former Bina bride, they identified a problem. Why, asked Madiha, do we have to mix this many colours to get to a lipstick shade that works for our brown skin? Mentioning an interest in solving this problem one day, Madiha returned to her silicone valley life. Several years and one instagram DM later, and just one week before the global lockdown, JUST B was born.

  • THE MISSION

Working around all of the unprecedented challenges of creating a make-up brand during a global pandemic, the brand found a way in to the world nonetheless. The driving message addresses a major concern; the glaring invisibilty to the global make-up industry of women of colour, and of the south asian community in particular. The brands ethos also incorporated at its heart Bina’s message of celebration not correction. Thus the name; JUST B.

  • JUST B/ JUST ME/ JUST YOU

At its core, Just B seeks to translates Bina’s artistry in to a product that the user feels sees them, celebrates them and works with them. The concept of its debut product won many accolades and mentions, from Vogue to Allure, even making an appearance on the small screen, used by the make-up teams on Gossip Girl and Succession. The co-founders receive daily messages from people who are delighted to be catered to at last. The idea of representation is core to the brand, all skin tones, all ages, all kinds of beauty.
